I'm not in any real need to get any 3x10x4's as I don't have anything that needs them ... I just thought I'd order some just in case I might while I was ordering the 4x10x4's ... you should keep them around just in case you need them in the future as that's all I was going to do.

I am with you on the Ugly Stik Catfish rods, I have 2 and I got some of that reflective tape for Arrows and put a small strip wrapped around the tip, so as to pick up light from lanterns and sech. Works great

Like I mentioned before the spool shaft diameter on 7000's manufactured before about the mid-70's are 1/8" OD and WILL NOT accomodate the 3x10x4mm bearings. The 1/8x3/8x5/32" bearings would work but your gonna have to carefully shim the 3/8" OD so the spool will center in the frame. That was plan A.....but I'm not comfortable with it as an imbalance could reak havoc!

Now for plan B....the old spools are identical to the new spools in all dimensions, cept that outer shaft OD. So this poses the question of upgrading to a new spool before swappin old bushings with new bearings? To test this, the old spool and old bushings from the vintage 7000 were swapped with those from a new 7000WM and....Yep, it worked! So I got to searchin and found a NIB 7000 spool kit on eBay for $10.50  and completed the upgrade! Total cost (new spool, new bearings and shippin) tallied about $20 for an 'old-school' 7000 to 7000c3 conversion!

BTW, it's hard to find bargains on the spools as most places want $40 or $50 for a new 7000 spool which makes the upgrade cost prohibitive.
